Val di Noto

Val di Noto is a historic province in south-eastern Sicily. The area now consists of Ragusa, the Siracusa province and the southern part of the province of Catania. In 1693, almost the entire region was destroyed by a heavy earthquake. All cities and villages had to be rebuilt, using characteristic Sicilian baroque architecture. In 2002, Val di Noto was placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Caltagirone, Catania, Noto, Modica, Ragusa, Palazzolo Acreide, Scicli and Militello in Val di Catania.

This city is at the foot of Mount Etna and is the second largest city in Sicily. The central square of the historic city center is the Piazza del Duomo. You will find beautiful buildings in typical Sicilian baroque style. The main street is Via Etnea, which starts at Piazza del Duomo and ends at the foot of Mount Etna. You can shop well and there are many bars, restaurants and ice cream parlors. Along the Via Etnea is the largest park of the city Villa Bellini. Catania has the most theaters in Sicily, so there are many people who are active in professional and amateur theater groups.
